To help communities suffering from food shortages brought on by protracted dry spells, Rwanda has donated 1,000 tonnes of maize to Zambia.
In Lusaka, Zambia’s Vice President Mutale Nalumango accepted the maize from Rwanda’s Ambassador to Zambia, Emmanuel Bugingo.
He said the aid symbolizes the strong bond and mutual support between the two nations adding that Rwanda stands with Zambia during these challenging times. Vice President Nalumango expressed gratitude for Rwanda’s timely intervention. She said that the maize will provide relief to many Zambian families severely affected by the drought. She appreciated Rwanda’s generosity. Zambia has been experiencing one of its worst droughts in recent history, leading to significant crop failures and food insecurity.
The Zambian government has been aggressively pursuing aid from outside in an effort to lessen the consequences of the drought and guarantee food supply for those who are most in need.
The African Union is working to encourage intra-African cooperation in times of crisis, and Rwanda’s donation is a part of that effort.
