Breaking news: Trump’s Incoming Administration Weighs Bold Plan for Federal Bitcoin Stockpile

A duo of 50-page policy documents detailing the plan in depth, along with discussions about specifics involving President-elect Donald J. Trump and his advisors, and conversations with cabinet nominees regarding funding.

On the brink of Mr. Trump’s inauguration, the cryptocurrency sector is urging his new administration to pursue an ambitious initiative that would have seemed far-fetched just a year prior: a government program to acquire and hold billions in Bitcoin.

During his campaign last summer, Mr. Trump promised to establish a federal “Bitcoin stockpile” that would act as a “permanent national asset for the benefit of all Americans.” Bitcoin supporters lauded the proposal as potentially groundbreaking, asserting that it could help alleviate the national debt. While Mr. Trump could still opt against the plan and its specifics remain under discussion, industry leaders have spent weeks advocating for the proposal, raising hopes that he might take action shortly after assuming office.

Recently, crypto executives have been providing feedback to David Sacks, a venture capitalist appointed by Mr. Trump to manage crypto and artificial intelligence, regarding a potential executive order that encompasses various aspects of crypto policy, according to three sources familiar with the situation. The Bitcoin stockpile is included in these conversations, as indicated by two of the sources.
