MoMo Rwanda has launched the DusangireLunch campaign to help boost school feeding program.

The Ministry of Education, in partnership with Mobile Money Rwanda ltd and Umwalimu SACCO, has launched the #DusangireLunch campaign to enhance the provision of nutritious meals to school children nationwide.

Evolving from the #NdiReady campaign, this initiative educates parents and communities on the importance of school nutrition for children’s development.

Since its expansion in 2021, the national school feeding program has significantly improved educational outcomes, reducing primary school dropout rates by 4%.

The government covers 90% of school feeding costs per child, with parents contributing approximately Rwf1,000 per trimester.

The campaign aims to boost community participation and ensure every child receives a nutritious meal daily.

The #DusangireLunch campaign was launched at Groupe Scolaire Kacyiru II by Minister of Education Gaspard Twagirayezu, Mobile Money Rwanda CEO Chantal Kagame, and Umwalimu SACCO Director General Laurence Uwambaje.

Chantal Kagame, CEO of Mobile Money Rwanda, said that, this initiative underscores Mobile Money Rwanda’s commitment to help Rwandan children realize their dreams of becoming our future doctors, engineers, lawyers, athletes, and more.

Only Rwf1,000 feeds a child for an entire trimester, and Rwf3,000 feeds a child for the whole school year.

“As Mobile Money Rwanda, we pledge to provide 10,000 students with meals for one year, worth Rwf30,000,000. I take this opportunity to call on other private sector players to join the #DusangireLunch campaign.”

Laurence Uwambaje, Director General of Umwalimu SACCO, stated that Umwalimu SACCO is pleased to join the Ministry of Education and Mobile Money Rwanda in this noble cause that supports Rwanda’s human capital creation and expands access to educational opportunities for all Rwandan children.

“As Umwalimu SACCO, we pledge to provide lunch to 8,500 kids for two years, worth Rwf51,000,000. I call on other financial institutions to join the #DusangireLunch campaign.”

Minister of Education Gaspard Twagirayezu said that school meals play a vital role in ensuring children’s well-being and academic success.

“By providing nutritious meals, we can improve student focus, attendance, and overall health. In addition, school meal programs support local farmers and promote sustainable practices, creating a positive impact that extends far beyond the dining hall. We commend Mobile Money Rwanda and Umwalimu SACCO for ensuring the success and sustainability of the school feeding program.”

“We urge all Rwandans to contribute to the #DusangireLunch campaign. Together, we can make a difference.”
