Tributes paid to two boys and girl who died in accident in Sunderland

Pictures have been released of the three teenagers who died after their car plunged into the River Wear in the North East.

Emergency services were called to reports of a black Audi A3 coming off the road at Panns Bank, near Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland, before entering the water just before 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Jackson Duke, 17, and Luke Etheridge and Zara Shaw, both 16, were in the car and later pronounced dead.

All were studying at Sunderland College, which said it was “deeply saddened” by their deaths.

A 17-year-old boy who escaped from the vehicle with non-serious injuries and reached safety is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, Northumbria Police said.
