OpenAI Secures $1.5 Billion Investment from SoftBank in Latest Funding Deal

November 29, 2024 — OpenAI, the leading artificial intelligence (AI) company and creator of ChatGPT, has secured a substantial $1.5 billion investment from Japan’s SoftBank, according to a report by CNBC. The funding includes a tender offer allowing current and former employees to sell shares, with the window for participation open until December 24, 2024.

This latest move, led by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, reflects the company’s continued interest in expanding its stake in OpenAI. SoftBank had previously invested $500 million in the AI giant during an earlier funding round.

OpenAI, which dominates the AI industry, has attracted significant backing from investors, including Microsoft, which has contributed over $13 billion to its development. In October, OpenAI closed a $6.6 billion funding round led by Thrive Capital, NVIDIA, and SoftBank, further solidifying its position as the foremost AI innovator.

With a weekly user base of 250 million, OpenAI continues to strengthen its reputation globally, driving advancements in artificial intelligence and maintaining its leadership in the sector.
