Overwork causes a robot in South Korea to “commit suicide.”

The Gumi City Council in South Korea hired an administrative officer robot, which is said to have thrown itself down a flight of steps before it became unresponsive. This is being referred to as the nation’s first robot suicide case and has left the local community in mourning.

The shattered robot public servant was found laying in the stairwell between the first and first levels of the council building. The robot was discovered unconscious after tumbling down a two-meter (six-and-a-half-foot) stairway last month, according to the East Asian nation’s city council.

The robot officer was allegedly spotted by several witnesses “circling in one spot as if something was there” prior to the collision. Authorities are currently investigating the precise cause of the fall, a city council official was reported by AFP as saying.

According to the source, the corporation has gathered the robot’s parts and will conduct more analysis. The robot’s job description at the company included “daily document deliveries, city promotion, and delivered information” to the locals.

A number of regional media sites began to scrutinise the apparent robot suicide shortly after the episode became public.

“Why did the diligent civil officer do it?” read the headline from one of the magazines and inquired as to whether the robot’s labour was “too hard” in another.

The robot civil servant

In August of last year, the administrative officer robot was appointed. It is reputed to be among the first in the nation’s Gumi city to be used in this way.

The California-based robot-waiter startup Bear Robotics created it.

The robot used to work in the Gumi City Council from 9 AM to 6 PM, and the authorities gave it a civil service officer card.

The robot owned by the Gumi City Council was intelligent enough to summon a lift and move to different floors on its own, unlike other robots that are often limited to a single floor.

The news agency stated that the Gumi City Council does not currently have plans to approve a second robot officer.

South Korea is one of the few countries in the world that uses robots with enthusiasm. It is thought that the nation has the highest robot density in the entire globe.

According to information released by the International Federation of Robotics, there is one industrial robot for every ten workers in South Korea.
