The company will also introduce an optional subscription for users who prefer an ad free experience. The monthly fee is expected to range between €3 and €4, which equals approximately 5,085 to 6,780 Rwandan francs. Subscribers who choose this option will continue using the platform without seeing promotional messages.
WhatsApp emphasized that the advertising system will not rely on personal messages or private data. The company stated that it will not use the content of conversations to target advertisements. This commitment aims to address concerns about privacy, which has long remained one of WhatsApp’s core promises to users.
The rollout of the advertising feature will begin with users in Europe. After evaluating feedback and performance in this region, the company may gradually expand the system to other parts of the world.
This change reflects a broader trend across digital platforms that seek sustainable revenue models while keeping their core services free. Messaging apps that once relied mainly on support from parent companies now explore advertising and subscription options to strengthen long term financial stability.
