A regional Russian official reported on Sunday that an oil storage station in the Kursk area of Russia was bombed by suspected Ukrainian military drones. Online footage of the incident showed a massive fire lighting up the early morning sky.
Acting Regional Governor Aleksei Smirnov stated in a post on the Telegram messaging app that three storage tanks caught fire as a result of the drone strike. He claimed that although firefighters were attempting to put out the two remaining fires, one had been promptly put out. 32 pieces of equipment and 82 firefighters were involved, according to Smirnov.
Video of what appeared to be burning tanks was released on Russian Telegram channels run by Baza, who is connected to the Russian intelligence services.
According to Smirnov, the drones also caused damage to a few local residential buildings and injured one person.
Over the Ukrainian border in the Kursk region, the Russian Defence Ministry said via Telegram that two drones had been shot down by its air defence systems.
Ukraine started attacking Russian oil infrastructure early this year because it views it as a valid military target. Long-range drones are essentially the only weaponry capable of striking military installations located deep into Russia, and Ukraine employs them extensively.
Drones from Ukraine frequently target military and oil plants in Russia. On Saturday, Ukrayinska Pravda said that an oil refinery in the Ryazan area of Russia had been struck by Ukrainian drones.
