The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has officially dismissed Adel Amrouche from his position as head coach of the Rwanda men’s national team, Amavubi, citing a breach of contract.
In a statement released late Tuesday night, FERWAFA confirmed that Amrouche had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.
“Adel Amrouche has been suspended from his role as head coach of the men’s national team,” the statement read.
Contractual Breach Cited
FERWAFA said the decision followed a thorough internal review which found that the coach failed to comply with the terms of his employment contract.
“This decision was taken after an in-depth assessment, which established that Adel Amrouche violated the provisions of his employment contract, in accordance with Article 17.2,” FERWAFA stated.
The federation added that Amrouche had been given adequate time to address the issues raised before the final decision was made.
FERWAFA also indicated that further details regarding the matter would be communicated in due course.
Speculation Followed Leadership Changes
Speculation about Amrouche’s future began shortly after FERWAFA elected new leadership in late August 2025. Within two months, reports emerged suggesting the coach could be dismissed.
However, it was widely believed that his contract protected him during the first year, as performance evaluations were expected to begin in the second year of his tenure.
Short and Challenging Tenure
Amrouche was appointed Amavubi head coach in February 2025 on a two-year contract.
During his time in charge, Rwanda recorded one victory, a friendly win against Zimbabwe in September.
That result was not enough to improve Rwanda’s standing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where Amavubi finished fifth in Group C, despite initially leading the group.
Exit Comes Ahead of Key Matches
Amrouche’s dismissal comes at a critical time for the national team.
Amavubi are scheduled to take part in the FIFA Series international friendlies set to be hosted in Kigali in March, followed by the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers later this year.
FERWAFA has not yet announced an interim or permanent replacement.
