RDB Suspends Operations of Four Hotels

Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has temporarily closed four hotels after inspections found that they failed to meet required tourism and hospitality standards.

The affected establishments are Century Park Hotel and Residences, Dove Luxury Hotel, Highland Resort Ltd, and Nengo Eden Park Hotel.

According to RDB, the decision followed a compliance assessment aimed at evaluating whether hospitality businesses operate according to national tourism regulations and service requirements.

Inspection Revealed Multiple Areas of Non-Compliance

The review examined several key areas, including hotel management practices, public safety measures, hygiene standards, food quality controls, customer service, and other hospitality requirements.

Authorities stated that the temporary closure is intended to give the hotels time to address the identified shortcomings and improve their operations.

During the suspension period, the affected facilities cannot provide hotel or tourism-related services until they meet the required standards.

Reopening Depends on Corrective Measures

RDB explained that the hotels will only resume operations after implementing the necessary improvements and successfully passing a follow-up inspection.

The move highlights the regulator’s efforts to strengthen service quality and maintain Rwanda’s reputation as a growing tourism destination.

Data from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) shows that the country had 1,460 hotels and 25,330 rooms in 2024, compared with 669 hotels and 13,802 rooms in 2018.

The steady increase reflects rising investment in tourism infrastructure and growing demand for accommodation across the country.
