The Cuban government has accused the United States of killing 32 Cuban soldiers during a military operation in Venezuela aimed at arresting President Nicolas Maduro.

According to Havana, the Cuban soldiers were deployed as part of a Caribbean regional security mission requested by the Venezuelan government.

Cuban Forces Were Providing Security Support

Cuba said the soldiers and police officers were assisting Venezuelan authorities with security duties at the time of the attack. The operation took place on January 3, 2026, when US forces arrested President Maduro and his wife.

Cuba has long been a close ally of Venezuela. It regularly sends military and police personnel to assist the country during periods of political instability.

Trump Confirms Cuban Casualties

US President Donald Trump confirmed that several Cuban nationals were killed during the operation. However, he said no American soldiers lost their lives.

“There were no US casualties,” Trump said.
“The other side suffered significant losses.”

Trump did not give an exact number but acknowledged that many of those killed were Cuban.

Growing Tensions Between Washington and Havana

The incident has further strained relations between the United States and Cuba. Havana condemned the operation, calling it an act of aggression and a violation of international law.

The US government has not responded to Cuba’s full claims but insists the operation was necessary for regional security.

Diplomatic tensions are expected to rise as investigations continue.
