OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to use its data storage infrastructure requiring up to 100 megawatts of power.

The agreement marks a significant step in expanding the computing infrastructure that supports ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence services.

Part of the $500 Billion Stargate Project

The deal is part of a broader $500 billion initiative known as the Stargate project. This ambitious plan focuses on building large-scale AI infrastructure, including power systems, advanced computing clusters, and high-capacity data centers to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence technologies.

The Stargate project is being led by OpenAI in partnership with SoftBank and Oracle.

A Major Milestone for TCS

The agreement represents a major milestone for TCS. Last year, the company announced plans to invest $7 billion to build data center infrastructure in India capable of consuming up to one gigawatt of power.

India is increasingly becoming a global hub for AI and technology infrastructure investments. International tech giants such as Google, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft are leading major investments in AI infrastructure in the country.

Domestic conglomerates like Reliance Industries and Adani Group are also expanding into the AI and data center sector.

Tata Group to Adopt ChatGPT Internally

Meanwhile, Tata Group, which includes TCS, plans to integrate ChatGPT into its operations and provide access to thousands of employees over the coming years.

OpenAI has also revealed that approximately 100 million people in India are currently using ChatGPT, highlighting the country’s growing importance in the global AI ecosystem.

The partnership further strengthens OpenAI’s global infrastructure strategy and positions India as a central player in the future development of artificial intelligence.
