Rwanda is on the brink of making history as the first African nation to host the World Cycling Championship, with preparations almost complete and Team Rwanda ready to compete on home ground.

According to Bigango Valentin, First Vice President of the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY), final touches are being made across all aspects of the event. “We’re about 96% ready. From logistics to competition details, everything is falling into place for an exceptional championship,” he said.

Valentin also underscored the national team’s readiness, noting that training plans have been fully executed and that athletes are mentally prepared to face the challenge.

Head coach Sempoma Félix detailed their rigorous training program, which began in Musanze, continued in France, and concluded in Bugesera. “The Championship is just around the corner. Both our male and female athletes are fully prepared after intensive training. This year will be different,” he emphasized.

Unlike past tournaments where Rwanda sent only a few cyclists, this year’s squad is larger, better equipped, and supported by both the Ministry and FERWACY. “We have modern gear, solid morale, and full backing. We’re determined to make this edition unforgettable,” Sempoma added.

The athletes themselves expressed excitement at racing before home fans. Veteran cyclist Byukusenge Patrick said competing in Rwanda would give them a strong advantage: “Riding on familiar roads where we’ve trained and grown up is hugely motivating.”

Teammate Mahoro Vainqueur highlighted their long, intensive sessions—sometimes lasting up to six hours—and promised not to disappoint. “I’m fully prepared, and I can assure Rwandans of great results,” he said.

With the countdown underway, Rwanda stands ready to not only host Africa’s first World Cycling Championship but also to showcase its talent, resilience, and rising place in the global cycling arena.
