Escalating violence in Sudan continues to place civilians at extreme risk. As a result, tens of thousands of people have fled their homes across the Kordofan region, the United Nations said on Tuesday.
According to United Nations, fighting between October 25 and December 30 displaced about 65,000 people from multiple locations in Kordofan.
Sharp Rise in South Kordofan
Meanwhile, displacement has intensified in South Kordofan in recent days. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric cited data from the International Organization for Migration, which shows that violence forced nearly 1,000 people to flee between December 31, 2025, and January 4.
The affected areas include Quoz locality, Kadugli town and Berdab village.
New Displacement in North Kordofan
In addition, violence spread to North Kordofan. On Monday alone, fighting uprooted about 2,000 people from Um Dam Haj Ahmed locality, UN officials reported.
At the same time, humanitarian teams confirmed a drone attack in El Obeid, the state capital. The strike reportedly killed at least 13 civilians, including children.
UN Calls for Ceasefire and Access
Once again, the United Nations urged all parties to halt the fighting immediately. Dujarric stressed the urgent need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Moreover, the UN called for rapid, safe and sustained humanitarian access. According to officials, aid agencies must reach displaced families without obstruction to prevent further loss of life.
Humanitarian Situation Worsens
Overall, continued violence across Kordofan is deepening Sudan’s humanitarian crisis. Unless hostilities stop, the UN warns that displacement and civilian suffering will continue to rise in the coming weeks.
