Job Description

AMI is looking for an ambitious and talented Kinyarwanda Translator to support the translation of learning content, documents, and communication materials from English to Kinyarwanda (and vice versa), ensuring accuracy, cultural relevance, and clarity for diverse audiences. The role involves maintaining AMI’s tone and quality standards while enabling effective learning and engagement across programs.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Translation: Accurately translate resources, from English to Kinyarwanda while preserving the content’s context, style, and tone.
  • Proofreading: Thoroughly edit translated materials to ensure language accuracy and consistency.
  • Cultural Adaptation: Ensure that the translated materials are culturally relevant and appropriate for the intended audience.
  • Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on translated content and make necessary revisions to maintain standards of quality.
  • Collaboration: Effectively collaborate with the content development team and other stakeholders to ensure communication and teamwork.
  • Technology Familiarity: Utilise translation software and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in the translation process.
  • Meeting Deadlines: Effectively prioritise translation assignments to meet project deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Languages, Communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in professional translation, preferably English ↔ Kinyarwanda.
  • Excellent command of both English and Kinyarwanda, with strong grammar, spelling, and editing skills.
  • Strong understanding of cultural nuances to ensure accurate and context-sensitive translations.
  • Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and quality assurance skills.
  • Familiarity with translation tools, software, and technology to enhance efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
