Tech giant Apple has announced a major investment in a renewable energy project in Europe, aimed at generating 650 megawatts of clean power.

The initiative will focus on harnessing solar and wind energy across several European countries, including Greece, Latvia, Spain, Poland, Romania, and Italy.

According to Apple, the electricity produced through this project will replace carbon-intensive energy sources currently used in the production of its technology devices, helping reduce the company’s environmental footprint.

Data shows that MacBook computers and Apple Watches account for roughly one-third of all carbon emissions from Apple’s manufacturing operations.

A significant share of the investment will go toward developing solar energy facilities in Greece and Latvia, while wind power projects will be prioritized in Romania and Italy.

Apple also revealed that 90% of its operations in China already run on renewable energy. The company plans to invest an additional $150 million to help its supply chain partners in China transition to clean energy sources.

Renewable energy particularly solar and wind power has become increasingly attractive to major tech firms, as it is cost-effective, quick to deploy, and ensures a steady power supply. Industry leaders such as Microsoft and Meta are also pouring significant investments into similar sustainability projects worldwide.
