More than 250,000 residents have returned to their homes in Gaza following the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the implementation of a ceasefire in the territory.

The figures were released by a civil rights organization in Gaza overseen by the Hamas leadership, which continues to monitor the humanitarian situation on the ground.

According to Mohammed Al-Mughayyir, one of the organization’s officials,

“The number of people who have returned to Gaza since yesterday has reached 250,000.”

Of these, over 200,000 people reportedly went back to their homes on October 10, while another 50,000 followed on October 11, 2025, Al-Mughayyir explained.

However, for many of those returning, there is little left to go back to as their houses were completely destroyed in the Israeli bombardments that preceded the truce.

On October 9, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire aimed at facilitating the exchange of hostages and prisoners. The Israeli government formally approved the deal on October 10, marking the start of its implementation.

The agreement forms part of a broader peace and reconstruction framework proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, designed to bring lasting peace and sustainable development to Gaza.

Under the 20-point plan, Israeli troops are to withdraw from Gaza in phases, ensuring the enclave no longer serves as a base for attacks against Israel.

Trump’s proposal also envisions a future where Hamas fighters disarm, international peacekeeping forces are deployed to maintain stability, and Gaza is governed by an independent, neutral administration free from factional influence.
