Global Obesity Drug Shortage

The World Health Organization has warned about a global obesity drug shortage. It says fewer than ten percent of people who need these drugs can afford them. The agency urged countries to improve access as obesity continues to rise worldwide.

Sharp Decline in Drug Availability

WHO urged governments to purchase these drugs and make them available to patients. The organisation said obesity continues to grow and requires urgent solutions.
It also noted that obesity is a long-term condition that can be managed when people receive consistent care.

WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said obesity can be treated effectively.
He explained that GLP-1 drugs offer significant help. Although they cannot solve the problem alone, they remain an important part of treatment.
