Google has introduced a new technology that enables real-time translation for people speaking different languages using earbuds.

The feature is currently in a testing phase and is part of Google’s broader strategy to advance translation technology.

Real-Time Translation Through Earbuds

With this new feature, spoken words are translated instantly into another language and played through earbuds. Users do not need to wait for the speaker to finish talking.

As a result, two people speaking different languages, such as English and French, can hold a smooth conversation over the phone.

Integrated Into Google Translate

Google has integrated the feature into the Google Translate app. The original speaker’s voice remains unchanged, including tone and speaking speed.

Only the language changes, which helps conversations feel more natural and easier to follow.

Improving Communication Across Languages

The real-time translation makes discussions clearer and more engaging. It allows users to interact as if they were speaking the same language.

This feature can be useful during conversations, lectures, speeches, and media consumption in foreign languages.

Google Explains the Feature’s Use

Rose Yao, Google’s Vice President for Product and Research, explained how the tool works.

She said users can wear earbuds, open the Translate app, select “Live Translate,” and hear translations instantly in their chosen language.

Availability and Language Support

The feature is currently being tested on Android devices in the United States, Mexico, and India.

It supports more than 70 languages and works with all types of earbuds.

Google announced that iOS users are expected to gain access to the feature in 2026.
