Kigali Universe is set to open a new pedestrian footbridge to the public, marking a major addition to one of Kigali’s most popular entertainment destinations. The project cost more than Frw900 million, according to the facility’s management.

Kenny Mugarura, Global Entertainment, Sports and Events Director at Kigali Universe, confirmed that the footbridge forms part of a broader expansion programme. He explained that the development also includes a new multifunctional building designed to host concerts, exhibitions, and large-scale events.

Expansion to boost events and visitor experience

The new building will accommodate up to 700 people, positioning Kigali Universe as a key venue for entertainment and cultural activities. In addition, Mugarura said the complex still has room for further development, including space above the CHIC building.

“The footbridge project is complete and has received all the required approvals,” he said. “We plan to open it either later this month or in February.”

Design and construction details

The footbridge features a modern and visually striking design. It links key sections of Kigali Universe and provides visitors with a scenic route for walking, sightseeing, and photography.

According to Mugarura, the total cost covered construction works and imported materials. Some of the steel used came from China, while other components were sourced from Turkey. Turkish and Rwandan architects jointly designed the structure to handle high visitor traffic while enhancing the complex’s overall appeal.

Once opened, the bridge is expected to improve pedestrian movement within the entertainment hub and further strengthen Kigali Universe’s status as a leading leisure destination in the city.
