Spending too much time on the toilet can lead to hemorrhoids. Researchers warn it may cause pain and bleeding during bowel movements.

Study findings

A study by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Israel investigated 125 participants. Some brought phones into the toilet, while others did not. Results showed that 46% of phone users experienced pain and rectal bleeding.

Experts clarify that using a phone is not the cause. Instead, prolonged sitting and straining on the toilet puts pressure on veins in the rectum, leading to hemorrhoids.

Health advice

Doctors recommend limiting time spent on the toilet. People should focus on completing bowel movements efficiently and maintaining hygiene. Avoiding long sessions can help prevent hemorrhoids and associated discomfort.
