OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT technology, has become the world’s most valuable private company after selling shares worth $6.6 billion.
At the beginning of this year, OpenAI was valued at $300 billion, while Elon Musk’s SpaceX was estimated at $400 billion.
After the share sale on October 2, 2025, OpenAI’s valuation surged to $500 billion.
This milestone comes as the company’s leadership engages in talks with Microsoft to restructure OpenAI into a for-profit company. Microsoft, which has long been a close partner of OpenAI, has invested billions to expand its artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
Founded in 2015 as a non-profit research organization, OpenAI’s mission has always been to advance artificial intelligence in a way that benefits all of humanity.
