A police officer shot and seriously injured two people before taking his own life in a midnight incident on Wednesday, December 10, in Boneza Sector, Rutsiro District.
Superintendent of Police Sylvestre Twajamahoro, the Police Spokesperson for the Western Province, confirmed the incident. He said the victims include a civilian and a member of DASSO, the District Administration Security Support Organ.
“Yes, it is true. A police officer shot and injured two people in Boneza Sector in Rutsiro District, including a civilian and a DASSO officer,” SP Twajamahoro said. He added that the officer later shot himself and died at the scene.
Victims Transferred for Treatment
The two injured victims were taken to the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the body of the police officer was transported to the Kigali Forensic Laboratory for examination.
Investigation Underway
According to SP Twajamahoro, investigators are now working to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting. More details will be shared once the inquiry progresses.
