Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate in the upcoming October 29, 2025 elections, has vowed to stand firm against anyone attempting to intimidate citizens or prevent them from voting.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Bariadi, Simiyu Region, on October 10, 2025, Samia reassured Tanzanians that security forces are on high alert to safeguard the electoral process and citizens’ right to vote.
“I want to assure you that there are people spreading fear and false rumors to discourage you from voting. I speak not only as the CCM candidate but also as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. I warn those plotting such acts not to dare, because if anything happens, we are prepared and we will stand with you,” she declared.
The president highlighted her party’s track record in advancing national development, urging citizens to renew their trust in CCM to continue the progress achieved over the years.
“CCM is committed to serving the people. We have accomplished a lot that everyone can see. We believe in building on this success, and I humbly ask you to vote for CCM so we can keep moving forward,” she said.
Samia also promised to continue implementing major infrastructure projects, citing the expansion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) as a key driver of economic growth. She revealed that the railway will extend through Simiyu, opening up job and business opportunities for local youth and small traders.
Hussein Bashe, the CCM parliamentary candidate for Nzega Urban, praised President Samia’s agricultural reforms, noting that cotton farmers have benefited significantly from her leadership.
“Under President Samia, cotton prices have risen from 500 Tanzanian shillings per kilogram in 2021 to 1,200 shillings today. Farmers are seeing the results of good governance,” Bashe stated.
Residents of Simiyu expressed gratitude for the president’s initiatives and voiced support for her re-election.
Maria Luwoga, a cotton farmer, said: “We used to suffer losses due to low and unstable prices, but the government has now ensured transparency and fairness. We want this progress to continue.”
Tanzania’s general elections are scheduled for October 29, 2025, with over 37 million voters expected to cast their ballots. President Samia, who succeeded the late John Pombe Magufuli in 2021, is widely favored to win a second term against 16 other contenders.
