A rare supermoon will appear in Rwanda and other countries on 4 December 2025. The event will show a full and bright Moon that looks larger than usual. The supermoon happens when the Moon is full and close to Earth.
What creates a supermoon
A supermoon forms when the full Moon aligns with its closest point to Earth. The shorter distance makes the Moon appear bigger. It also shines more brightly. Many people enjoy watching this event because it is easy to see without equipment.
Supermoon visibility in Rwanda
People in Rwanda will see the supermoon between 18:15 and 18:30. The Moon will then remain visible until it fades between 05:30 and 06:00. Rwanda has already seen two similar events this year. This appearance will be the third.
Future supermoon events
The supermoon will appear again on 3 January 2026. Scientists say this will be the last supermoon of the 2025 calendar year. Many sky watchers are expected to follow the event across the region.
