Trump Calls for Arrest of Chicago Mayor and Illinois Governor

U.S. President Donald Trump has called for the arrest of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, both Democrats, accusing them of obstructing his administration’s immigration and public security policies.

Speaking on October 8, 2025, Trump said the two leaders should be jailed for opposing his plan to deploy federal troops across several U.S. cities to curb rising crime and manage undocumented migration.

Earlier in the week, Mayor Johnson signed an executive order prohibiting city employees from using municipal resources to assist federal immigration enforcement.

“This isn’t the first time Trump has tried to jail a Black man,” Johnson responded defiantly. “But I’m not going anywhere.”

Governor Pritzker, widely viewed as a potential Democratic presidential contender in 2028, also denounced Trump’s remarks, saying he would not be intimidated.

“Trump is now demanding that elected officials be imprisoned simply because he disagrees with them,” Pritzker said. “What else remains on the path toward full-blown authoritarianism?”

Trump doubled down on his threats, vowing to invoke the Insurrection Act to detain those he claims are undermining his authority — the same law used during the 1992 Los Angeles riots to deploy the military domestically.
