The Deputy Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Land Forces, Maj. Gen. Francis Takirwa, has expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Ugandan and Rwandan armies in maintaining security along their shared border.

Maj. Gen. Takirwa made the remarks as senior officers from Uganda’s 2nd Division and Rwanda’s 5th Division concluded a three-day meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the two armies and border communities.

The meeting was held in Uganda’s Mbarara and Kabale districts from October 1 to 3, 2025, according to the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF).

He said, “Both sides benefit from sustained peace and security, as residents can safely engage in trade and other activities knowing their safety is well protected.”

Maj. Gen. Takirwa thanked Presidents Paul Kagame and Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for fostering military cooperation between the two countries, as well as the senior commanders who organized the meeting.

The collaboration between the Rwandan and Ugandan armed forces in border security mainly focuses on information sharing to help prevent activities that could threaten the safety of border communities.
