The United States has announced plans to impose tough measures on Iran over its handling of ongoing protests.

President Donald Trump said Washington would respond firmly to what he described as serious human rights violations.

Thousands Reportedly Killed in Protests

Human rights organizations report that more than 2,400 protesters opposing the government have been killed in Iran.

According to these groups, the victims include at least 12 children.

An additional 150 people linked to the authorities have also reportedly died.

Trump Issues Strong Warning

Speaking to CBS News, President Trump warned Iran against further violence.

“If they carry out executions, they will face very serious consequences,” he said.

He added that the United States would take “extremely tough measures” if the killings continue.

Iran Disputes Death Toll

An Iranian official told Reuters that about 2,000 people had died so far.

However, the official claimed those responsible were involved in what the government describes as terrorist activities.

Iranian authorities continue to reject claims of widespread abuse against peaceful protesters.

US Seeks Verified Information

Trump said the United States is working to verify the exact number of people killed.

He explained that future actions would depend on confirmed figures.

“The violence appears severe, but we need accurate numbers,” Trump said.

Message Posted on Social Media

On Tuesday, Trump posted a message on Truth Social.

He said Iran’s leadership would “pay a heavy price” for the killing of protesters.

He also urged Iranians to continue demonstrating against the government.

Talks Suspended Until Violence Ends

Trump stated that he would not hold talks with Iranian officials until the violence stops.

He insisted that the killing of protesters must end immediately.

“Support is on the way,” he wrote, without giving further details.

Protests Spread Across Iran

The protests have spread to more than 180 cities across Iran’s 31 provinces.

They were triggered by anger over the sharp fall of the national currency.

Rising prices and worsening economic conditions have also fueled public frustration.
