USA: Trump Sued for Deploying Troops to Portland

The states of California and Oregon have filed a lawsuit against the administration of President Donald Trump over his decision to deploy 200 federal troops to the city of Portland.

The move followed nationwide protests across several U.S. cities condemning Trump’s handling of immigration and his decision to use the military for domestic law enforcement.

California’s Democratic Governor, Gavin Newsom, denounced the deployment as an abuse of presidential power granted by law.

A court in Oregon has ordered a temporary suspension of the military deployment until October 19, 2025, as the case proceeds.

Trump, however, defended his decision, saying that sending troops to Portland was necessary because the city was “facing serious unrest.” But city officials disputed his claim, asserting that no such security crisis existed.

The dispute has further exposed tensions between state governments and the Trump administration over the use of federal troops within U.S. borders, as protests continue to spread in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver.
