Kigali / Menlo Park Messaging platform WhatsApp has announced plans to introduce a new security feature aimed at strengthening the privacy of user conversations and preventing messages from being shared outside the app without consent.
The new feature, called “Advanced Chat Privacy,” is designed to give users greater control over their private and group conversations, especially those they do not want to be copied, saved, or shared elsewhere.
What Advanced Chat Privacy Will Do
Once the feature is activated, users will no longer be able to:
- Automatically save shared images, videos, or documents from protected chats
- Export conversations outside WhatsApp
- Easily forward messages to external platforms, including those that use artificial intelligence tools
WhatsApp says the update will help ensure that conversations remain confidential and are not reused or distributed without the sender’s permission.
“This feature will give users confidence that their private conversations cannot be easily shared or misused,” WhatsApp stated.
Focus on Stronger Digital Security
The company explained that Advanced Chat Privacy is designed to complement WhatsApp’s existing end-to-end encryption, which already ensures that only the sender and receiver can read messages.
With this new layer of protection, WhatsApp aims to respond to growing concerns about data misuse, content leakage, and the unauthorized sharing of private conversations on other platforms.
Rollout Timeline
According to reports, including information published by 7sur7, the new privacy feature will be rolled out in the coming months. It will be available to all users who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp on their smartphones.
WhatsApp emphasized that users will need to keep their app updated to access the new security settings.
Why This Update Matters
As digital communication continues to expand, concerns over privacy and data protection are increasing worldwide. Screenshots, forwarded messages, and shared media have often exposed private conversations to the public without consent.
By introducing Advanced Chat Privacy, WhatsApp is taking a stronger stance on protecting users’ digital conversations and reinforcing trust in its messaging platform.
The company reiterated that safeguarding user privacy remains one of its core priorities.
