Call for Applications: Master’s Programmes at the University of Rwanda’s Regional Centre of Excellence

The University of Rwanda (UR) has officially opened the call for applications to its postgraduate academic programmes under the East African Community Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (EAC RCE-VIHSCM) for the 2025 academic year, September intake. Applications are now being accepted through the university’s online platform between 15 May and 30 June 2025.

This opportunity targets professionals seeking to enhance their skills in areas critical to healthcare systems across the region. With reserved scholarship slots and competitive self-sponsorship paths, these programmes are open to both nationals and international applicants.

Available Master’s Programmes

  1. Master’s in Health Supply Chain Management (MHSCM)
  2. MSc in Pharmaceutical Analysis and Quality Assurance (MPAQA)
  3. MSc in Vaccinology (MVAX)
  4. MSc in Medical Products Regulatory Affairs (MPRA)

Each of these programmes is designed to develop skilled professionals who can advance healthcare delivery, pharmaceutical systems, and vaccination strategies throughout Africa and beyond.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Each programme has its own minimum academic and professional entry criteria. Applicants are encouraged to review specific requirements for their chosen programme on the official University of Rwanda website under the Admissions section.

Required Application Documents

To apply, each applicant must prepare and submit the following documents:

  • A formal letter addressed to the Director of UR’s Postgraduate Centre, indicating the chosen programme and contact details.
  • An updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Certified copies of academic transcripts and degree certificates.
  • Two academic reference letters.
  • A recommendation letter from the applicant’s employer.
  • A copy of national identification card or passport.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be evaluated based on the completeness and quality of their application documents. Only those meeting the programme-specific entry criteria will be considered for admission.

Scholarship Opportunities

Fully funded scholarships are available for public servants from East African Community (EAC) member states, including:

  • Republic of Burundi
  • Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Federal Republic of Somalia
  • Republic of Kenya
  • Republic of Rwanda
  • Republic of South Sudan
  • United Republic of Tanzania
  • Republic of Uganda

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Full tuition fees (EUR 6,000)
  • Economy class return airfare to Kigali
  • Daily living allowance of EUR 60 (or RWF equivalent) during face-to-face sessions in Rwanda

Selection Priorities:

Scholarship recipients will be nominated by their respective governments based on a quota system. Other considerations include:

  • Gender balance
  • Disability status
  • Geographic equity
  • Age (under 45)
  • Human resource distribution in health sectors

Note: Applicants who have previously received RCE scholarships for master’s programmes are not eligible to apply for another sponsorship.

Self-sponsored candidates from all countries are also encouraged to apply and will be prioritized for admission.

Application Instructions

Follow the steps below to apply:

  1. Go to the official website
  2. Click on Admissions → Applicant Portal → New Application
  3. Complete the biographical form and save. A student ID reference number will be issued. This ID is required for all future communications.

For international applicants:

  • Use “0991048BCG963” for S.6 Index Number.
  • Enter any 16-digit number as your ID.
  • Use “P.O. Box 4285 Kigali, Rwanda” as the default postal address.
  • Create a numeric PIN (5 digits, not starting with 0) for future access.

After completing your account setup, submit your required documents through the appropriate programme link:

Important: All documents must be submitted in PDF format. Incomplete submissions will not be processed.

Forgot Your UR Student Number?

For returning applicants who do not remember their student number:

  1. Visit the prospective students website
  2. Click “Forgot student number”
  3. Enter the ID or email address used previously
  4. Check your inbox for the recovery email
  5. Resume the application process using your retrieved student number
