Rwanda and Poland are preparing to deepen their bilateral partnership after foreign ministers from both countries held high-level political consultations on December 9. The two sides outlined new areas of collaboration with a focus on investment, education and ICT.
Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with Polish Undersecretary of State Wojciech Zajączkowski to discuss how the two nations can expand cooperation in sectors they view as key economic drivers.
Growing Momentum in Rwanda–Poland Relations
The consultations reflect ongoing momentum in Rwanda–Poland relations. During Polish President Andrzej Duda’s state visit to Kigali in February 2024, the countries signed agreements covering trade and green technologies. These agreements opened the door for broader economic engagement.
Education remains one of the strongest pillars of the partnership. The Rwanda–Poland Education Forum in 2022 led to several memoranda of understanding between universities. Today, Poland hosts more than 1,500 Rwandan students, the largest number of students from a single foreign country.
Investment and Diplomatic Cooperation Expand
Investment cooperation continues to play a central role. In 2022, the two nations signed three MoUs at the Polish–Rwandan Business Forum in Kigali, including one linking their national investment agencies. These agreements aim to facilitate business exchanges and support long-term commercial projects.
Diplomatic ties have also strengthened significantly. Rwanda opened its embassy in Warsaw in 2021, and Poland established its mission in Kigali in 2022. These developments have created stronger channels for political dialogue, economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
