Government leaders, led by the Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, have invited all Rwandans to attend the UCI Road World Championships that will take place in Kigali, marking the first time this prestigious competition will be hosted in Africa.
From September 21 to 28, 2025, Rwanda will host the cycling championship, which brings together top cycling nations from different continents.
As preparations intensify, leaders from different government institutions joined hands to invite Kigali residents to this once-in-a-lifetime event.
In her message, the Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, said:
“Come in large numbers to support the riders in the UCI Road World Championships. I’ll be at Kimironko Market where will you be?”
The Minister of Public Service and Labour, Amb. Christine Nkulikiyinka, added:
“Gahanga, here we come.”
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Candy Basomingera, sent a call specifically to residents around Nyabugogo, a spot that always attracts many cycling fans, especially since the final race will be the Men’s Elite category.
The Minister of State in the Ministry of Sports, Rwego Ngarambe, extended his invitation to residents around Norvège; while the Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, invited fans to the famous uphill section known as Kwa Mutwe.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Jean-Guy Afrika, called on people to gather at the road junction known as Ku Kabindi; meanwhile, the Mayor of Kigali City, Dusengiyumva Samuel, invited everyone to the finish line.
He said:
“The race will conclude here at Kimihurura, at the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC). I’ll be there, make sure you don’t miss it.”
The UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda are expected to be one of the toughest in history due to the hilly nature of the roads with several steep climbs.
Alongside the race, organizers have planned side activities and entertainment to ensure fans fully enjoy the championship experience.
