Mbappé Reaches 60 Champions League Goals as Real Beat Kairat

Kylian Mbappé struck a hat-trick and reached 60 Champions League goals as Real Madrid eased past Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan.

The France captain opened the scoring from the penalty spot early on after goalkeeper Sherkhan Kalmurza clattered into Franco Mastantuono.

He doubled his tally in the 52nd minute, racing onto Thibaut Courtois’ long ball before calmly dinking over the onrushing Kalmurza.

Kairat thought they had a lifeline when Valeri Gromyko was brought down by Dani Ceballos and a penalty was awarded, but VAR overturned the decision.

Mbappé missed one golden chance to complete his treble, shooting wide with the goal at his mercy, but later made amends with a close-range finish to seal the hat-trick.

Substitutes Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz added late goals to complete the 5-0 rout. Camavinga headed home from inside the box, while Díaz found the bottom corner from Gonzalo García’s pass.

The result marked Kairat’s heaviest-ever defeat in European competition and a vital response for Xabi Alonso’s side after their 5-2 derby loss to Atlético Madrid in La Liga.

Mbappé’s goals took his Champions League tally to 60, moving him past former Bayern Munich striker Thomas Müller into sixth place on the all-time scorers’ list.
