On December 7, 2025, a seven-year-old girl, Uwimana Donathie, went to school in Nyagatare District. She did not return home. Her parents confirmed the incident.
Her father, Sezikeye Juvan, said the child left during the examination period. Another girl reportedly promised to buy her bread and led her away. After that, the family never saw her again.
Later, a man contacted the parents. He claimed he knew where the child was. However, the child remains missing to this day.

Parents Report Extortion and Lack of Action
The parents said the man demanded 15,000 Rwandan francs for information. They paid the money. He gave them no help.
The family then reported the case to local leaders and RIB Musheri Station. They say authorities did not act quickly.
Mr. Sezikeye said the same man later asked for 50,000 francs more. He refused to pay. Police arrested the suspect but later released him. The father says officers kept telling him to return later.

Neighbors confirmed the incident. They said it caused fear in the community. They urged authorities to take the case seriously.
A neighbor, Minani Philemmo, said the suspect asked for money. RIB warned the man to stop. The father refused a refund and insisted on finding his child.
The Acting Mayor of Nyagatare District, Kakooza Henry, said leaders know about the case. He confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Police arrested two suspects who gave false information. District leaders continue to work with RIB.
Residents say crime exists in the area, including livestock theft. However, they say child disappearances for money remain rare. This case has deeply shocked the community.
