Aircraft Delivery Strengthens Strategic Partnership

On April 13, 2026, CDB Aviation delivered a Boeing 737-8 to China Southern Airlines under a long-term lease. This deal shows a stronger partnership between the lessor and one of China’s largest carriers.

With this aircraft, CDB Aviation now leases three modern jets to China Southern. It had already delivered two Airbus A321neo in August 2025. The airline is upgrading its narrowbody fleet to meet rising travel demand. It also reflects a recovery in aircraft deliveries after last year’s trade disruptions.

A Balanced Fleet Strategy

China Southern is using aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus. This reduces risk if one manufacturer faces delays. It also gives the airline more flexibility.

The airline ordered 96 Airbus A320neo-family jets, with deliveries running through 2027. At the same time, the Boeing 737-8 supports regional and international routes. For example, it launched the Guangzhou–Darwin route in late 2025.

China Southern is also cutting costs on long-haul flights. It has retired the Airbus A380 and plans to phase out the Boeing 787-8 by 2026.

Leasing Companies Fill the Supply Gap

Aircraft supply remains tight worldwide. Because of this, airlines rely more on leasing firms like CDB Aviation. The company has strong credit ratings and a large orderbook.

By the end of 2024, it had over 500 aircraft in its portfolio. It also secured many new orders to meet future demand. All aircraft for 2025 were already placed. Most of the 2026 supply is also booked.

This delivery also shows improving US–China aviation trade. Boeing deliveries to China paused in April 2025 due to tariffs. They resumed in June 2025. This latest deal suggests the market is stabilizing again.
