Senior officials in the United States are reportedly holding secret talks about a possible meeting between Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during Trump’s upcoming trip to Asia.

Although no final decision has been made, the discussions are said to focus on reviving diplomatic engagement between Washington and Pyongyang after years of strained relations.

If the meeting takes place, it would mark the first encounter between the two leaders since June 2019, when Trump made history by becoming the first sitting U.S. president to step onto North Korean soil during their meeting at the inter-Korean border.

American officials say the talks are part of efforts to ease tensions over North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile program, which have long been a source of friction between the two nations.

For his part, Trump has expressed willingness to meet Kim again, describing such a meeting as both necessary and honorable.

“If it’s appropriate for me to meet him, I would certainly do it. It would be an honor,” Trump said.

Trump’s Asia tour is expected to include visits to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in welcomed the prospect of renewed dialogue, saying he believes lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula can only be achieved through communication and mutual understanding.

“Peace in North Korea will come through dialogue and compromise,” Moon stated.

Analysts view the potential meeting as a sign of a strategic shift in U.S. foreign policy, moving away from military confrontation toward constructive diplomacy with Pyongyang.
