Rwamagana Residents Demand Relocation Over Industrial Pollution

Residents living near the industrial zone in Rwamagana say nearby factories are harming their health. They blame a livestock feed processing factory for releasing a strong and unpleasant smell into the area. According to Emmanuel Nayituriki, one of the residents, some factories release harmful gases into the air.

In addition, he said a metal-processing plant also causes problems. When it rains, he explained, water changes color because of factory waste. As a result, the bad smell spreads into nearby homes and makes daily life difficult. Because houses sit very close to the factories, residents fear for their safety. Therefore, many of them believe relocation is the best solution.

Meanwhile, Mukeshimana Christine shared a similar concern. She said the smell is so strong that people often cover their noses when passing through the area. For this reason, she added that moving residents away from the factories would greatly improve their living conditions.

District Authorities Promise Action After Inspections

Meanwhile, Rwamagana District Mayor Mbonyumuvunyi Radjab said the district carries out regular factory inspections. However, he noted that authorities plan to strengthen these checks to ensure factories follow environmental rules. If any factory fails to meet the standards, action will follow.

During a visit to the area, a strong and unpleasant odor was noticeable. As a result, concerns among residents have continued to grow. Therefore, many people now expect quick action to protect their health and well-being.
