New Lunar Settlement Plan

Moon base project

NASA has introduced a major project worth 20 billion dollars to build a long term human settlement on the Moon. The initiative, known as the Ignition Moon Base program, aims to establish a continuous human presence in space.

The project targets the southern region of the Moon, where future habitats will rely on solar and nuclear energy.

Timeline and Key Objectives
NASA plans to have astronauts living on the Moon by 2032. These stays will last for extended periods, although they will not be permanent.

Before human arrival, the agency will focus on research and preparation. By 2029, robotic missions will collect data and test conditions needed for human life.

Logistics and Mission Support
The first phase includes around 25 launches to transport equipment and materials. These missions will carry up to four tons of cargo, including drones, landers, and rovers.

Private companies such as Blue Origin and Astrobotic will support the project by building key technologies.

This equipment will help scientists study the Moon and prepare infrastructure for human habitation.

Global Competition in Space Exploration
The United States aims to return astronauts to the Moon by 2029 as part of its broader strategy to lead space exploration.

At the same time, China continues to expand its space program. It recently launched the Shenzhou-23 spacecraft with three astronauts, including one expected to remain in space for a year.

China plans to send humans to the Moon by 2030, increasing competition in lunar exploration.
