EVP is set to construct 55 new electric vehicle charging stations across Rwanda as part of efforts to support the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation.
The new facilities will expand EVP’s existing network of 115 charging stations, which currently includes 95 stations dedicated to electric motorcycles and 20 stations serving electric vehicles.
The expansion forms part of Rwanda’s broader strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality and promote environmentally friendly transport solutions.
New Charging Stations Planned in Key Districts
According to EVP management, the additional charging stations will be established in areas where charging infrastructure remains limited or unavailable.
The company plans to deploy new facilities in several districts, including Nyagatare, Musanze and Rusizi, to improve accessibility for electric vehicle owners across the country.
EVP Charging Stations Chief Executive Officer Ike Erhabor said the company aims to complete the new installations before the end of 2026.
“We have plans to build more charging stations in areas where they are not yet available, including Nyagatare, Musanze and Rusizi. Our goal is to ensure that these stations are completed and operational before the end of this year,” Erhabor said.
Improving Long-Distance Travel for EV Users
The company intends to position charging stations at intervals of approximately 100 kilometres to ensure drivers can travel more comfortably without concerns about battery range.
This approach is expected to strengthen confidence among existing EV owners while encouraging more people to consider switching to electric vehicles.

Reliable charging infrastructure remains one of the most important factors influencing EV adoption worldwide, making network expansion a key component of Rwanda’s electric mobility strategy.
Digital Platform Enhances User Experience
In June 2026, EVP launched a digital platform designed to help users locate charging stations more easily and plan their journeys efficiently.
Available on both Android and iOS devices, the application allows customers to identify nearby charging facilities, access station information and make electronic payments for charging services.
The platform aims to simplify the charging experience while improving convenience for motorists travelling across different regions of the country.
Supporting Women’s Economic Empowerment
Beyond expanding electric mobility infrastructure, EVP has also focused on creating employment opportunities for women and girls.
According to the company, approximately 170 women and girls currently work as agents at charging stations across Rwanda, assisting customers and supporting daily operations.
The initiative contributes to broader efforts aimed at promoting economic inclusion while supporting the growth of the green economy.
Supporting Rwanda’s Sustainable Transport Goals
Rwanda has emerged as one of Africa’s leading advocates for electric mobility, introducing policies and incentives designed to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.
The government views electric transportation as an important tool for reducing dependence on fossil fuels, lowering emissions and improving urban air quality.
As the charging network continues to expand, officials and industry stakeholders expect greater adoption of electric vehicles by addressing concerns about charging availability and travel convenience.
The planned addition of 55 new charging stations marks another significant step in building a nationwide infrastructure network capable of supporting Rwanda’s growing electric mobility sector.
