China-based artificial intelligence company DeepSeek has announced a major price reduction for its newly launched AI model, DeepSeek-V4-Pro, offering developers a 75% discount until May 5. The move signals growing competition in the global AI market as companies race to attract developers and expand adoption.
In addition to the discount on the Pro model, DeepSeek also reduced costs for input cache hits across its entire API system. The company lowered these prices to one-tenth of the original rate, according to a statement shared on social media platform X.
Two model versions target different users
DeepSeek-V4 is available in two versions. The Pro version targets high-performance users and delivers stronger capabilities, while the Flash version focuses on lower cost and lighter workloads. This dual structure allows developers to choose between performance and affordability depending on project needs.
According to DeepSeek, the Pro model performs strongly in world-knowledge benchmarks. It reportedly ranks just below Google’s Gemini-Pro-3.1, a closed-source competitor, while outperforming many other open-source models.

The company stated that the V4 series is particularly suited for AI agent applications. These systems go beyond traditional chatbots by executing more complex and multi-step tasks. However, they also require higher computing power, which makes pricing strategies a key factor for adoption.
By lowering costs, DeepSeek aims to make advanced AI systems more accessible to developers, startups, and research teams that may not have large infrastructure budgets.

The aggressive pricing strategy increases pressure on other global AI providers. Lower model costs can accelerate adoption but may also intensify competition, especially in the open-source AI ecosystem.
