The Russian government announced that its military forces shot down 251 Ukrainian drones overnight leading into Monday, October 6, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Telegram, “last night, Russian air defense systems destroyed 251 Ukrainian drones.”
The ministry reported that most of the drones were intercepted over southern regions, including 61 over the Black Sea and 40 over Crimea, the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.
Many others reportedly fell in the Kursk and Belgorod regions, near the Ukrainian border, according to the same statement.
Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, confirmed that another drone headed toward the capital was shot down en route, adding that emergency services were deployed to secure the debris site.
Russia has continued to launch waves of missile and drone attacks against Ukraine, targeting energy and communication infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has been striking back, targeting arms factories, oil facilities, and other economic sites inside Russia.
The war between the two countries, which began in February 2022, continues to intensify, even as the international community urges both sides to engage in peace talks to restore stability in the region.
