Ripple to bridge crypto with banking.

Ripple Labs, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency companies, is expanding beyond its traditional crypto operations to integrate more deeply with the conventional financial sector. According to CEO Brad Garlinghouse, the firm is focusing on developing a broad range of financial services built on blockchain infrastructure to take advantage of the growing institutional adoption of digital assets.

In 2025, Ripple has undertaken acquisitions worth nearly $4 billion to strengthen its position in financial services. These include the purchase of prime brokerage Hidden Road for approximately $1.3 billion in April and the acquisition of software firm GTreasury for over $1 billion later in the year. The company also launched Ripple Prime, a brokerage platform providing U.S. institutions with access to over-the-counter trading of multiple cryptocurrencies, while securing $500 million in new funding and increasing its valuation to $40 billion.

Ripple’s expansion into traditional finance coincides with increased institutional interest in digital assets. Under the current U.S. administration, regulatory bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have relaxed their oversight of the crypto industry. Major financial institutions, including Bank of America, Citigroup, and JPMorgan, are also developing crypto-related initiatives such as stablecoins and custody services.

Additionally, Ripple plans to collaborate with large financial institutions by offering its XRP Ledger technology to support their blockchain initiatives. These partnerships are expected to enhance the utility and adoption of XRP, although the token’s market performance has remained largely stagnant in 2025 despite significant gains in Bitcoin and Ethereum.

However, progress in forming partnerships with banks and financial entities remains constrained by the absence of comprehensive cryptocurrency regulations in the United States. Legislative efforts, such as the proposed Clarity Act, have stalled amid the ongoing government shutdown, leaving financial institutions uncertain about the legal framework for engaging with digital assets.
