Seven relatives lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Masaka–Mbarara highway in Lwengo District. The crash happened at around 4:30 am on December 27, 2025, at Njagalakasayi Village.

The victims included a father, his wife, and their children, all travelling in a Toyota Fielder. Police said the family was returning from Kampala when the tragedy occurred.

According to the Greater Masaka Regional Police spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, the collision involved a silver Fuso truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a silver Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W.

SP Kasirye explained that the Toyota Fielder veered off its lane while travelling from Masaka towards Mbarara. The vehicle then rammed into the oncoming Fuso truck, which was heading towards Masaka.

The impact caused immediate fatalities. Four people died on the spot due to the severity of the collision. Rescue teams later retrieved three more bodies from inside the wrecked car, raising the death toll to seven.

Police identified the deceased as Ivan Niwagaba (38), Brenda Ainembabazi (37), Turihohabwe Sayuni (39), Keith Agaba (10), Keitha Atuhire, Masaiko Kenene (5), and Keron Agaba (2).

Traffic officers arrived quickly at the scene. They secured the area and managed traffic to prevent further incidents along the busy highway. Authorities later towed both vehicles to a nearby police station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.

Police transported the bodies to Masaka City Mortuary, where pathologists will conduct postmortem examinations.

Preliminary findings point to reckless driving as the likely cause of the crash. However, police said investigations are still ongoing.

SP Kasirye urged motorists to follow traffic laws and remain alert, especially during the festive season when road travel increases. He warned that speeding, fatigue, and careless overtaking continue to claim lives on Uganda’s highways.
