Several employees suffered injuries after the front nose gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner unexpectedly collapsed while the aircraft was parked at a gate at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday.
According to Lufthansa, the aircraft was being prepared for a scheduled flight to Los Angeles when the incident occurred.
“The aircraft’s nose gear unexpectedly retracted while it was parked,” the airline said in a statement.
No passengers were on board at the time. Only crew members and ground personnel were present during the incident.
Crew Members and Ground Staff Taken to Hospital
Lufthansa confirmed that several people sustained minor injuries.
The injured included two cabin crew members and several employees from service providers working around the aircraft. Emergency responders transported them to a hospital for medical treatment.
The airline has not released further details about the severity of the injuries.
Airport operations around the affected gate were temporarily disrupted as emergency teams and technical staff responded to the incident.

Flight to Los Angeles Cancelled
The Dreamliner was scheduled to operate a flight from Frankfurt to Los Angeles.
Following the collapse of the nose gear, Lufthansa cancelled the flight and arranged alternative travel options for affected passengers.
The airline said customers were rebooked on other flights to reach their final destinations.
Investigation Underway
Lufthansa has launched an investigation alongside aviation authorities to determine what caused the nose gear to retract unexpectedly while the aircraft was stationary.
Technicians and support teams remain on site as inspections continue.
“We are currently investigating the exact circumstances together with the relevant authorities. Technicians and support staff are on site. We will provide further information as soon as it becomes available,” the airline said.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is one of Lufthansa’s long-haul aircraft used on international routes connecting Europe with destinations across North America, Asia and other regions.
