China’s Seedance 2.0 Signals a New Era for AI-Generated Video

A new artificial intelligence model developed by ByteDance has drawn major attention in Hollywood. The tool, called Seedance 2.0, can create high-quality videos with sound effects and dialogue using only a few written prompts.

Many clips reportedly produced by the system quickly spread across social media. Some of these videos included famous characters such as Spider-Man and Deadpool. Large film companies, including The Walt Disney Company and Paramount Global, accused ByteDance of copyright infringement. These concerns go beyond legal issues and raise questions about the future of creative work.

Why Seedance Has Attracted Attention

Seedance was first released quietly in June 2025, but the second version launched eight months later created much more interest. Experts say the videos produced by the model look similar to those made in professional film production.

Like other AI tools such as Midjourney and Sora, Seedance can turn written prompts into videos. However, it is considered more advanced because it combines text, visuals, and audio in one system.

One common test for video-generation AI is creating a clip of Will Smith eating spaghetti. Seedance can produce very realistic videos of this scene. It has also created viral clips showing the actor fighting a giant spaghetti monster, with visuals similar to those in big-budget films. Experts say the system can generate complex action scenes that look more realistic than many competing tools.

Copyright Issues and China’s AI Progress

Seedance has also raised serious copyright concerns. Hollywood studios claim the tool has used protected characters such as Darth Vader without permission. Some companies have sent legal notices asking ByteDance to stop using their intellectual property.

This issue is part of a wider debate about how AI companies use online data. In 2023, The New York Times filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft for allegedly using its articles to train AI systems without permission. Reddit also sued Perplexity AI over similar concerns.

At the same time, Seedance highlights China’s growing progress in artificial intelligence. Another Chinese model from DeepSeek recently gained global attention after becoming one of the most downloaded free apps in the United States. China has been investing heavily in AI, robotics, and advanced computer chips as part of its plan to strengthen its technology sector. Analysts believe that 2026 could become an important year for wider AI adoption in the country.
