Trump Sends U.S. Spies to Venezuela

After years of heated rhetoric and diplomatic tension, relations between the United States and Venezuela have reached a dangerous new level. Donald Trump has confirmed that he ordered the CIA to launch operations inside Venezuela a move that President Nicolás Maduro has fiercely condemned.

During a press conference on October 16, 2025, a journalist asked Trump, “Why did you order the CIA to go into Venezuela?” He replied, “I did it for two reasons. First, their prisons have effectively opened in the United States.”

He went on to explain that the second reason was to curb the flow of drugs. “We’re seeing a lot of narcotics coming from Venezuela much of it traveling by sea,” Trump said.

Tensions between the two countries are nothing new. Since Hugo Chávez came to power in 1999, Venezuela has positioned itself as a vocal challenger to U.S. influence in Latin America.

Washington responded with sanctions and diplomatic isolation, accusing Caracas of corruption, drug trafficking, and human rights abuses.

Under President Maduro, the standoff deepened. Venezuela struggled to export oil due to U.S. sanctions, while several Venezuelan officials faced international indictments.

Trump’s latest directive follows five recent U.S. military strikes in the Caribbean Sea that reportedly sank a vessel accused of smuggling narcotics from Venezuela. Those attacks, launched in September, put Venezuela’s military on high alert and prompted nationwide defense drills.

Maduro denounced the American operations as acts of aggression and an attempt to remove him from power under the guise of anti-drug enforcement.

“No to regime change,” Maduro declared. “This reminds me of endless wars Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and others. We reject the CIA-led coup attempt.”

He ordered the Venezuelan armed forces to intensify their training and warned that any CIA operatives entering Venezuelan territory would be treated as enemy combatants.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s government has appealed to the international community for support, accusing the CIA of violating its sovereignty and breaching international law.
