A man stabbed wife in Huye District, leaving her seriously injured before taking his own life. The tragic incident occurred in Rugango Cell, Mbazi Sector, and has shocked residents in the area.

Man stabbed wife before dying by suicide

According to local authorities, Sibomana Charles, a 48-year-old resident of Rugango Cell in Mbazi Sector, attacked his wife with a knife and seriously injured her.

Shortly afterward, he took his own life by hanging himself.

The incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday, June 24, 2026. As soon as residents learned about what had happened, they alerted security officials.

Police confirm the incident

The spokesperson for the Rwanda National Police in the Southern Province, CIP Hassan Kamanzi, confirmed the incident.

He said:

“The incident happened in the early morning hours. We received the information through the cooperation that exists between the police and local residents.”

Furthermore, he explained that security officers responded immediately after receiving the report.

Victim receiving medical treatment

When officers arrived at the scene, they found that the woman had sustained serious injuries from the knife attack.

CIP Kamanzi said:

“The woman was seriously injured. She is currently receiving medical treatment at CHUB Hospital in Butare.”

Meanwhile, her husband was found dead after hanging himself.

As a result, the community was left in shock by the tragic events.

Investigation underway

Authorities have not yet established the cause of the dispute that led to the attack.

However, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has launched an investigation to determine what happened and identify the circumstances surrounding the case.

In addition, investigators are gathering statements and evidence that may help clarify the events.

Police urge citizens to avoid violence

Following the incident, CIP Hassan Kamanzi called on residents to avoid violence and seek peaceful solutions to conflicts.

He also encouraged community members to continue sharing information with authorities whenever they notice situations that could threaten public safety.

“We urge citizens to avoid violence and other criminal acts punishable by law. In addition, every resident should remain vigilant and support one another in maintaining security,” he said.

Promoting peaceful conflict resolution

Security officials continue to remind families to resolve disagreements through dialogue and counseling.

Moreover, couples experiencing serious conflicts are encouraged to seek assistance from community leaders, religious leaders, or professional counselors.

Violence can lead to severe injuries, loss of life, and the destruction of families. Therefore, authorities stress the importance of peaceful conflict resolution at all times.
