Peabo Bryson, the acclaimed singer behind some of Disney’s most beloved songs, has died at the age of 75.
According to his family, Bryson passed away on Tuesday after suffering a stroke on Sunday. He was surrounded by loved ones and receiving medical care at the time of his death.
His family released a statement thanking fans, friends, and colleagues for their support.
“We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” the family said.
They added that while they are heartbroken by the loss, they take comfort in knowing how many people were touched by his music and generous spirit.
A Voice That Defined Disney Classics
Bryson became known worldwide for his powerful voice and unforgettable Disney duets.
In 1992, he recorded the title song from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with Celine Dion. The song became a global hit and earned widespread acclaim.
He followed that success with “A Whole New World,” performed with Regina Belle for Disney’s Aladdin.
Both songs won Grammy Awards and remain among Disney’s most iconic musical recordings.
A Career Spanning Decades
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Bryson developed strong ties to Georgia and Atlanta’s thriving music scene.
He launched his recording career with his debut album, Peabo, in 1976. The album showcased his songwriting talent, with Bryson composing most of the tracks himself.
